The Pilot Disc is the first playable version of Metal Gear Solid ever released. It was released in Japan in 1998. I do not really have any extra information, but I know for sure my other Pilot Disc was originally given to Sony Malaysia (in small quantities) which makes me think that pilot discs are very limited edition demos. I have played this demo enough time to notice several differences between this and the final product. Here are a few things I noticed:

• the theme "The best is yet to come" is missing at the beginning of the game
• controls are not the same
• the "pause" screen differs
• some textures/colours are not the same
• Snake's codec face is different
